Dear Parents/Guardians,

One more week till the Christmas break! Help me with keeping your kids focused. They still have things to learn as I need to teach them.

This week the kids will not have a language arts packet. They still need to study their spelling words.  There will be one page of math homework on Thursday.  Please read at least 20 minutes every night and practice multiplication facts.

The Reflections contest deadline is approaching fast. Those who are participating need to get the paperwork in and finish their projects.

We will have the 4th grade treasure hunt for those who read chapter books during December after the holiday. So you might want to find a good book to read over the break.

This Friday will be our BEST activity for those who did not earn a colt citation. We will watch a movie before lunch. After lunch, we will have a Christmas party (for everyone in our class) from 12:15-1:15. If you are able to help with our party, please call Mrs. Nielsen at the school on Tuesday. We need to organize what we will do.

Sincerely,
Melissa Nielsen

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Wow! What a snowy weekend we had. I was driving during the storm and had to have my van pushed two times. Luckily the sun came out yesterday.

This week, the students will have Language Arts homework. Please go over it to make sure your child understands it. Practice spelling and read every night. Math chapter 6 is still going. The concept is division with remainders. Try to get on to Connected Online to have your kids practice. Go to chapter 6, lesson 7.

You should expect math homework today, Wednesday, and Thursday (lesson 9, 10, and 11). Homework must be handed in Friday, or your child will be in Study Hall after lunch.

Encourage your child to read a chapter book this month. The monthly treasure hunt is a great reward for a job well done.

We are in need of donations of pencils and AA batteries still.

Thanks for your continued support,

Melissa Nielsen

Homework must be handed in Friday, or your child will be in Study Hall after lunch.

This week is the treasure hunt week. Please fill out the chapter book report form.

We are in need of donations of pencils and AA batteries still.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Wow! It is SEP week already. The kids have learned so much. Now you get to visit with me to find out how they have been doing. I look forward to meeting with you this week.

This week's homework will be the regular language arts packet. Please sign it  on the back for each day.  A new math unit starts today. The students will be learning about dividing one-digit numbers. Math homework will come home on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Lessons 1, 2, and 3)

Next week I need your help with some donated magazines and newspaper clippings. Our core goes over people to admire and people to not admire. Please send any used magazines you have that we can cut the pictures out of before November 25.

Thank you for the gallon ziplock baggies. We are in need of donations of pencils and AA batteries still.

Thanks for your continued support,
Melissa Nielsen

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Happy Veteran's Day! Thank those you know who served for our country. We are truly blessed to live in America.

SEP Conferences are next week. Please see the form I sent home and return it by Wednesday, November 13th with your preferred times. We will review the goals that we set with you and your child in August.

This week there will be spelling, language arts, and math homework. You should expect math pages Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday will be a review for the test on Friday. If you would like to help your child study extra, find a website on multiplying 2-digit numbers.

Donations we could use for our class at this time are pencils, gallon ziplock baggies and AA batteries for our listening center.

Thanks for your ongoing support!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Last week was fun with Halloween. I loved to see the kids have a good time at the parade and during our grade level store.

This week math homework will be expected to come home on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Language Arts packet will be the regular one this week. Thanks to those who work hard and return their homework each week.

The students are getting better at times tables. It's exciting to see more remembering their facts. We won the grade level bell 2 weeks ago. We might get it this week, too.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This week there will be math homework on Tuesday and Wednesday. The language arts packet this week looks different, but still needs to be completed by Friday.

Wednesday the students will take a test on the water cycle and start the language arts test. Friday, they will finish the language arts test and take a math unit test.

The 4th grade level stores will operate on Thursday instead of having a Halloween party. Please talk with your child about setting up a store if he or she would like to. Your child will earn class money and pay class money for the items sold. The store applications are on October 30th (Wednesday) so I can plan for the right amount of space.

We would like to have students bring their costumes to school on Thursday. They can change into them at about 1:30. The school parade starts at 2:00 around the track. After that we will have our 4th grade store.

I will postpone the treasure hunt for chapter books until next week. So if your child is finishing a book, please keep track of it to write the report next week.

Thank you for bringing your children to school to learn and to grow.

I hope you had a great long weekend!

Please remind your student to keep reading. The kids are doing better on their math facts, but have them keep practicing!

Today I sent home a blue flyer explaining our 4th Grade Student Stores. The kids will each get to operate their own store on October 31st and will learn about supply, demand, profit, taxes, advertising, and more. Please refer to the flyer for complete information.

Also on Halloween day, the students can {bring} their costumes and change into them after lunch. We will have a school parade that day.

We are in great need of pencil top erasers and would love to receive some donations, if possible.

Thanks for all you do!

Have a great week,
Melissa Nielsen

Our field trip was fun last week.  The kids learned a lot and were well-behaved.  I was proud to be their teacher.
Since this week is short, the only homework expected from your kids will be to read 20-30 minutes each night and practice their times tables.  (Check their backpacks for practice fortune tellers)  There will be no spelling test or Fun Friday this week.
Read a chapter book to participate in our monthly treasure hunt.
Coral Canyon Elementary Preschool has 3 openings in our 3rd session which runs 1:15-3:15 P.M.  If you are interested, please call our secretary, Dawn, for more information.  The school's phone number is (435) 652-4787.
Your children are making lots of progress.  Thanks for your support at home.

Hello Parents,

I'm sure some of you have heard from your kids that Mrs. Nielsen has been out for a couple of days. She and her family are attending the funeral of a nephew, and she will be back at school tomorrow (Wednesday). We have our field trip to Staheli Farm tomorrow. We will be studying plants and soil. Please make sure you turn in permission slips by tomorrow morning if you haven't already. The bus leaves at 10:45am and the students will be back at 1:45pm. Don't forget to send your student with a sack lunch if you didn't elect for the school sack lunch.

Just a reminder -- please check your child's backpack nightly for school notices and to encourage your student to complete his/her homework. Together we can achieve great success!

Have a wonderful week!

Hi Everyone,
I am back.  It has been a hard 2 1/2 weeks, but I hope that everything can run smoothly.  I am grateful for the substitute teachers who helped out.  Thanks for your support during this time.  As we move forward, I want to have your children to continue their study of multiplication facts at home.  We are having weekly multiplication contests between classes in 4th grade.  I want our class to win!  With hard work and dedication, we can ring the bell!
If you want to help out in class, please e-mail me.
                                                                                                             Thanks,
                                                                                                             Mrs. Nielsen

Welcome to our new website!  I am excited!  Annie's mom has created our blog that you can check for what's going on each week.  Please use it as often as you can.
Another week has come and gone. I hope you had a fun 3 day weekend. Thank you for taking time out of your work schedules and meeting with me to discuss your child at SEP conferences. I am glad to get to know you and your child better.
I apologize for homework last week. I will try to do better in communicating. Apparently, when we end a chapter, there is a review with no homework and no homework on test days. This week, expect homework in math on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Also, practice spelling all week.
If you have any concerns, or just want to comment on our blog, know that I will check at the end of each school day and respond.

Thanks,
Melissa Nielsen
