Dear Parents,

Thanks to those who returned the small survey of whether we should keep our art specialist.

Remember to finish a chapter book for next week's treasure hunt.

Homework this week:
Lanugage Arts packet (please sign and return)
Math (see column on the left)
Science - your children are still learning about types of rocks and the rock cycle. Check out books or look on the internet at home for more exposure. The test is this Friday.
Writing - We are putting the student writing into Utah Write, a program where the students get graded on organization, word choice, and other writing traits. Ask them at the end of the week how they improved in their scores.

Book Orders - send order and check in by January 31st

I hope you got to do something fun for the 3-day weekend.  I was able to visit with my family in northern Utah. That was great.

Homework this week:

Math - see math widget on the left
**Parents, please go over the homework with your child after he/she completes it before you send
         it back on Friday.
Science - Your children are still learning about types of rocks and the rock cycle. Check out books
or look on the internet at home for more exposure.
Writing- Your children are expected to write more than 5 sentences for a story anymore. When
they get to the end of 4th grade, I want them to be able to write a 5-paragraph story.

Wow! Your kids are amazing. They came back from the break ready to settle down and work. I am happy that I can count on them. They earned 3 compliments within the first half hour of school today.

Homework is back to normal this week. There is a language arts packet. There will be four pages of math homework this week: Lesson 4, Check my Progress, Lesson 6, and Lesson 7.  Parents, please go over the homework with your child after he/she completes it. Last Thursday's homework had a variety of answers that were not correct. Please read at least 20 minutes every night and practice multiplication facts.

I have sent home the results for the Benchmark test 2 given in December. Please work through the missed problems with your child and sign it and return by Friday.

The Reflections contest deadline is tomorrow. I am happy to hear a lot of the kids are working on their projects.

We will have the 4th grade treasure hunt for those who read chapter books during December this Friday.

Thanks to Hilary Jensen and Kayla for putting on our holiday party in December. The kids had a great time!

More donations we could use for our classroom are: tissues, band-aids, and glue sticks. If you are able to contribute, I would really appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Melissa Nielsen
