Hi, one more week till our long 2 week break!  Please keep your children focused on homework.  I need to teach them language arts, math, and science still.
This week the children will learn about a theme of a story which means What did the characters learn?  Linking verbs will also be a focus.
The chapter test in math will be given on Tuesday.  Please look at the review sheet with your child, tonight.  Our next chapter is about fractions.  We will start that on Wednesday.
     Have a happy holiday.
Please comment below so I know that I have some parents who read this.  Thanks!
Monday, December 7, 2015
Hello.  It's been a good month so far.  Your children have Language Arts homework as well as math this week.  Please help make time to complete these.
The weather test will be given this Thursday or next week, depending on when I feel the class is ready.  Your children will bring home material to study this week.  Please ask them questions about it,
Thanks for all you do.  I am grateful for parents who support your children and me in education.

Monday, November 30, 2015
I hope you all had a great break.  I did.  I relaxed, went to The Good Dinosaur, and visited with many family members.
We are back in school and ready to push forward until Winter break.  The children came willing to listen and work today.  I want to compliment them for that.
Science is covering weather tools this week.  Talk to your child (ren) about anemometers, weather vanes, thermometers, barometers, and rain gauges.
Our new math unit is on patterns and sequences.  There will be homework on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Language Arts homework is coming home this week.  Please remind your student to practice spelling words on spellingcity.com.
Reading is also important.  Please set aside some time every night to listen to your child read.  It is great time for you to spend together.
Thanks for all you do at home to make school a priority.  I appreciate you all.
Monday, November 23, 2015
There will be no Language Arts packet sent home this week.  Please do the math review with your child(ren).  The math test is tomorrow.
Enjoy your holiday.  Encourage your child(ren) to read a little bit.  Ask your child (ren) about the clouds they see this weekend.

Monday, November 16, 2015
Hi, it's SEP week.  Thanks for returning your notes and agreeing to come in to talk.  It's great to celebrate your child(ren)'s accomplishments.
We are on Unit 3 week 1 for Treasures, our literacy program.  The children will learn about action verbs, making inferences, punctuation in dialogue, the power of words, and supporting details.
For math, we are in the middle of chapter 6.  Please help your child(ren) with division.  We are finally to the strategy that you and I use every day to divide.  For extra help, go to connect-ed McGraw-Hill on the internet.
We will start our unit on Weather this week.  It's a great week to learn about it when something other than sunny is our weather.
I am happy that the children are learning and progressing.  Thanks for helping them at home.  Please turn in reading minutes if you haven't been doing so.  We have a school-wide goal to read 1 milllion minutes this year.
Monday, November 9, 2015
This week is a review week for Language Arts, so there will be no spelling words.  There is still homework, though, so please help your child complete it.
I was really impressed with the scores for our math test on double-digit multiplication.  Way to go class!   Our next unit is division.  Be ready, parents, for many strategies of how to divide.
We will have some Prevention Dimension lessons this week, focusing on the students' strengths, talents, and individuality.
SEP conferences are next week.  Please let me know if your scheduled time will work.
I love your kids.  We are having a great year!  Thanks for sharing them with me.

Monday, November 2, 2015
Happy November Everyone!  I am excited for the fall weather!
We had a great day on Friday.  The kids had fun dressing up and shopping at the student stores.  Thanks, parents and kids, for making this a great event!
This week, our class will be finishing the water cycle unit.  The students are bringing home their science journal to review concepts.  The test is on Thursday.
Our math unit on multiplying with 2-digit numbers will end this Thursday, with a test.  Please study with your child and review anything you notice he/she needs more help on.
Thanks, again, for all your support at home.
Monday, October 26, 2015
Hooray!  Hooray!  The class earned another class reward.  They get to wear a hat in class tomorrow, October 27.    I am grateful when they respect me and earn compliments.
The class is getting excited for Halloween, but please keep encouraging your child(ren) to do their homework this week.  Some of your children got new monster wheels to practice their times tables with.  They should practice every night.
Our math test last week had amazing scores.  I am proud of the kids for paying attention in class and performing well.
Hopefully, I see some of you come out for the Halloween parade.  Have a good week.
Monday, October 19, 2015
I had a good fall break.  My kids and I stayed in town.  I did yard work.  I visited with my sisters who traveled through to California and Las Vegas.  I also hung out at the park with my own children.  The writing assignment today was about fall break.  Ask your child(ren) what he/she wrote.
I am still grading the Utah Environment tests.  I will share the results soon.  Our new science unit is on the water cycle.  You may google ideas about the water cycle to help your child study.
Times tables are being practiced every day during math time.  I am happy for the kids who are practicing at home, too.
Reading minutes are being recorded at school.  I really love seeing your child(ren) reading at home.  Keep recording their amounts on the homework packet.
Thanks for all you do to support learning at home and in school.

Monday, October 12, 2015
This week will go by fast.  There is no Language Arts homework, but your children will bring home math each night.  Please make sure they do this.
I am happy to see a lot of students progress on our Friday timed multiplication test.  Keep practicing at home.  Good websites for practice are on our Connect-Ed (McGraw-Hill) site and coolmath4kids.com.
Enjoy the break and I will see you back on the 19th.
Monday, October 5, 2015
Thursday, your child(ren) will be tested on the Utah plants and animals.  Please help them study their green science journals tonight, tomorrow, and the next day.
Thanks to those who are reading at home.  I really can see the progress when the children read.
Keep practicing times tables.  The children need to memorize all their facts up to 12s.
Monday, September 28, 2015
So September ends this week.  Fall is upon us. The semester is half way over this week.
I would like to see an improvement in times table knowledge.  Please practice at home.  I test the kids on these 3 times a week.
The students are starting animal reports.  Talk to them about habitats, adaptations, and appearances of animals in Utah.
There will be a chapter test on Thursday for math.  The concepts are multiplication and division rules and properties.
Thanks for all you do to support your child(ren) at home.
Monday, September 21, 2015
I am seeing the kids learning the procedures in the class and respecting each other more.  I feel that we are on the right track for a good year.
Your child should have brought home his/her Utah Geography test today.  Please go over it with him/her.
There is no spelling list this week.  We are reviewing skills this week.  Focus on reading comprehension in your child's reading at home.
Our new math chapter is on multiplication and division.  This is a good opportunity to reinforce practicing times tables at home.  Thank you to those who are doing this each night.
If your child is reading a chapter book this month, he/she will need to be finished by next week to participate in the 4th grade treasure hunt.  Look for the book report to fill out next week,
Remember to get online to see your child's dojo points.  Have a good week!
Monday, September 14, 2015
Wow!  Week 6 is here.  We started reading groups and are on the go.  Please have your child read every night.  It will help their self-esteem to believe they can read.
Chapter 2 math test is this week.  Please look for the review sheet to come home Tuesday.  The test is on Wednesday.  Regrouping with addition and subtraction is the skill that is being tested.
I want to commend the students who studied well for our Utah Physical Geography test given on Thursday.  Test results will come out this week.
We are starting an animal unit for science, learning about habitats.  Utah has 3 specific biomes: the desert, forest, and wetlands.
Keep up with the homework.  If the children learn good study habits now, they will do better in upper grades.

Tuesday, September 8, 2015
I hope you had a good 3 day weekend.  I did!  I went to Zion and had a BBQ.
This Thursday will be the Social Studies test on Utah's geography.  A study guide is in your child's folder.  Please have them look at it tonight and Wednesday night.
We painted our Utah maps and will keep them at school for another week to show off in the library.
I wanted to let you know that I am sending Take Home books for the students who are still on the levels of our Take Home library.  Please sign and return the slip in your child's folder.
This month, if your child reads a chapter book, he/she can participate in the 4th grade treasure hunt after submitting a book report handed out at the end of the month.  Encourage your child to read a chapter book at home.
Thanks for your support on homework.  Keep it up!

Monday, August 31, 2015
The students have been learning how to work during Daily 5.  Ask them what items they have to do first.  I am almost done with testing students for reading levels.  I hope to start reading groups the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Spelling needs to be practiced at home.  Get on spelling city and practice with some games.  We have shortened the Language Arts packet for this reason.
Please get on Class Dojo, too.  Check on your child's points.  They get rewarded when they reach 25.
Thanks to those who are working on times tables at home, as well as reading.  These two skills are so important.

Monday, August 24, 2015
I can't believe we are already starting the 3rd week of school.  The kids are learning a lot of procedures and doing them well.   I was happy with how many kids turned in their homework last week.  Thanks for your support at home.  Keep track of reading minutes every day and add them up at the end of the week.  Also, remember to have your child practice times tables with their monster wheel or something on the internet.
Monday, August 17, 2015
Well, we are off to a good start.  I have a lot of your office cards turned in.  Your children are coming every day.  We are learning each other's names, too.
Language Arts and spelling went home today.  Please ask your child about it.  The packet needs to come back, completed, this Friday.  On the back of the packet, you will see that I want your children to practice times tables and read.  Please write in the amount of time they spend on each of these.
The more time we invest in your child early on, the better they will develop.  Thanks for helping me teach.
Monday, May 11, 2015
This week during Language Arts, your child will be learning about prepositions, author's perspective, generating questions, and writing conclusions.
The perimeter and area test was given.  Results will be out next week.  For math, this week, our class will get to participate in activities presented by each 4th grade teacher for review.
We continue to study about Utah with our Utah Studies Weekly.  We will also brush up on our knowledge of water for the Water Fair this Thursday.  Home lunches for the Water Fair are Aaliyah, Braylee, Issy, Joshua, Zac, Talon, and P.J.
Please help your child study their spelling and times tables this week instead of the usual homework.
Monday, May 4, 2015
This week, in Language Arts, your children will learn about prepositions, generating questions about a story they have read, draw conclusions, and use transitional words in writing.
This week in Math, we will finish our chapter on perimeter and area.  Practice this concept at home with online games, if you can.  Perimeter is length + length + width + width.  Area is length x width.
Thank you to Josh and Jeannine for participating in the History Fair.  They did an excellent job.  I hope more of the kids participate next year.
This is our last week to turn in books to the school library.  Please look around the house to find them and bring them to school.
It is also the last week for Take home books.  Please return any books in a baggie that you have at home.
The children earned a read-a-thon.  This will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:45 till it's time to go home.  You may send pillows, blankets, and favorite books from home.  NO PAJAMAS, please.
This year has been a great one.  I love your children.  I am so pleased in all the progress they have made.  Let's keep them going through to the end of the school year.

This week, the students will learn about research reports, facts and opinions, negatives, and problem solving in Language Arts.
The students took their test in geometry today.  The students will learn about perimeter and area in more depth this next week.
Remember the History Fair is Wednesday morning. The second portion of SAGE Language Arts test is this Wednesday afternoon.  Please make sure your child is here that day with a good night's sleep.
Our field trip to Leeds Silver Reef is Thursday.  Kids who signed up for a home lunch are:Aaliyah, Braylee, Issy, Zac, Talon, and P.J.  The rest of the kids will get a school sack lunch.
As always, thank you for keeping your kids up on homework.  They grow and learn better when there is follow through at home.

Monday, April 20, 2015
Thanks to all who donated to our walk-a-thon.  The kids did well running and walking.  We also had fun watching Mrs. Eggleston, dressed up like a clown, take some pies in her face for the cause.
Last week, the children took the Science SAGE test.  It was hard.  Thanks for helping your kids go through study guides to prepare.  Now the students will take Language Arts SAGE test this week and next week, broken up into two sessions.
In class this week, our Treasures unit will focus on Learning things from the past, analyzing story structure, and comparing with adverbs.  Please practice spelling words at home as well as read every night.
Your children are continuing geometry in math with angles, triangles, and symmetry.  The test for this chapter will be next week.
I love all your children.  I am glad that I am their teacher.  They have made so much progress this year.  Let's keep them going through April and May!
Monday, April 13, 2015
I  am so proud of all the students for their performance in our program.  They did such a great job!  Thank you parents, for coming out to support us.
We are going strong this week with Daily 5, reading groups, math, and reviewing science concepts.  Please support your child at home with homework and reviewing the science study guides sent home today.
This Wednesday is the Science Fair.  I want to say good luck to those who are participating.
Finally, Thursday is our SAGE Science test.  I need your child here all afternoon.  We are going to test in 2 different sessions during the afternoon.  I know they can do well.
Thursday, April 9, 2015
I'm slow this week on posting.  We are in a whir of activity, getting ready for our program and reviewing things for the SAGE tests.
This week, we have been reviewing the water cycle.  We have also been talking about proverbs.  Ask your child some questions about both.
Next week the students will take their Science SAGE test in the afternoon on Thursday, April 16.  Try your best to have your child here that day.  It is easier if we all take the test together on the same day.
One more thing I would like to ask is to continue strong on completing homework.  I know activities can take your time after school.  Please set aside at least a half an hour each day to get the homework done.  Thanks for your support, always.
Monday, March 16, 2015
First of all, PTA is in need of volunteers for our walk-a-thon on April 13.  Please let me know if you are available between 10:00 and 10:45 to help.
This week is a review week in Language Arts.  The children will be tested on comparison and contrast, poems, comprehension, and hyperboles.  The district will have me report the scores to them.  I know the children have really improved since the first of the year, so I know they will do well.
We have a couple more days for the metric unit in math.  Please keep up on homework.
We will be practicing hard to be ready for our Utah program on April 10 these next two weeks, too.
Thanks for having your children at school on time, every day, to be prepared for all the learning opportunities.

Monday, March 2, 2015
Thanks for coming in for your SEP conferences.  I think we covered a lot of things and I feel good about the partnership we can have in educating your children.
Even though we had a short day today, the children still had their regular reading groups and Language Arts instruction.
Math chapter 11 is about capacity.  Help your children google some activities to try online.  Ask them to help you measure things with cups, pints, and quarts.  Your children get to measure things and convert units at school.
We will continue our unit on Fossils and test after spring break.  The children are learning about compression, mold and trace fossils.
We continue working on the individual books your children are writing, too.  The books will be amazing!
Most of the children did well on the vocabulary test last Friday.  I am proud of them.

Monday, February 23, 2015
Today started out with a somber mood.  Only 8 children were here in class before P.E. started.  The snow is beautiful but hard to travel in, as we parents all know.
If your child was not here, please get on the connected website today and review lessons in chapter 7, 8, and 9 to help your children be ready for our District Benchmark test tomorrow.
This week is SEP conferences.  If you can, please bring your child so we can update their goals.  I'm looking forward to meeting with each of you and sharing some great progress.

Tuesday, February 17, 2015
Thanks for sending valentines on Friday.  The kids had a great time.
Today, you will see the SEP schedule for next week in your child's folder.  I am getting things ready to talk to you about your child.  Please come with questions you can ask me, too.  Report cards will be given out.
This week we start our unit on Fossils.  The students will work on using description in their writing.  The students will also revisit what main ideas and details are in stories.
Keep reading and practicing times tables at home.

Monday, February 9, 2015
We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 13.  Please send a cereal or shoe box to school on Thursday to decorate in class.  If you want to decorate it at home, instead, that is fine.  If you send valentines, please include everyone.  We have 19 students right now.
Hi!  SEP conferences are coming up.  Please sign up for a time on the paper that came home today.  I will try to give you the times you need.  I want you to be able to check your schedules and your other children's schedules to coordinate.
The science fair is approaching.  Remember that I want each student to participate in the science fair or history fair.  Please decide which one.  We will talk about it at SEP conferences.
The second SAGE writing test is tomorrow at 10:40.  Please have your children here on time so they can take it with the class.  It is important that your child try his/her best.  Then we have a break from testing until April.  Yea!
Remember that school yearbooks are less this month.  If you would like one, please send the money in an envelope to school before the prices go up next month.
Thanks so much, parents, for your support of reading each day with your child.  Thanks for practicing their times tables too.  It pays off.

Monday, February 2, 2015
There are Science Fair hand outs in the office.  Please have your student get one if they are going to participate.  The History Fair is just around the corner, too.
If you want to order a yearbook, they are $12 during the month of February.  Send your money in the envelope found in your child's folder.
This week the children will be learning about Family Teams when they read about the Wright brothers.
Results of their science test will be sent home next week.
Keep practicing times tables at home.  The students need to have them memorized in their head.
The next math test is on Wednesday.  Please help your child review Tuesday night.
Class list for valentines: Aaliyah, Abi, Ashton, Austinn, Braylee, Derek, Emilee, Isaac, Issy, Jacob, Jayden, Jeannine, Josh, Lucy, Mandi, Paige, P.J., Talon, Zac
Thanks for all you do to support your students and our class.

Monday, January 26, 2015
Wow!  January flew by.  I am grateful for all the hard work your kids are putting in to learn.
This week, the students are learning about working together in reading.  They are reviewing how to write explanatory paragraphs.  They are also reviewing how to write opinion paragraphs.  These will be beneficial in their SAGE writing test for the next two weeks.  Please have your students here, every day, to participate in reviewing and testing.
Math is still about fractions.  Show your kids when you use fractions at home.
We will test on the Rocks, weathering, soil unit in Science this Thursday.  See the study guide sent home in your student's homework folder.
Tuesday, January 20, 2015
Hello.  I am so glad we got to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr., day.  It's nice to think of what people in the past have contributed to make lives better today in some way.
I need you to go through the math tests coming home today.  Talk through the problems and explain how to do them to your child.  You can get help on the connect-ed site for our school.  Your kids know their login (it's their success maker username and password).  Or you can get help on youtube.  It's very important that the kids get the foundation of fractions.

Monday, January 12, 2015
This week, we continue our rock, soil, and weathering unit.  The kids are learning about igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks.  Please have them complete their rock discovery guide to turn in this Friday, January 16.
The kids did really well on their vocabulary assessment last week.  I am happy about that.
Most of the kids went up, as well, on their Language Arts unit test given before Christmas break.  I love the progress they are making.
Next month will start the SAGE testing with writing.  Your children are preparing by writing about opinions and information.
Wednesday, January 7, 2015
Welcome back everyone!   I am sorry I am late in updating this information.  Since I wasn't at school on Monday, I have fallen behind.
I hope you all had a good break.  I had a great time with family and friends.
We won the best attendance for December!  We get a class pizza party this Friday.  I am so glad that you and your students make good efforts to come to school every day and stay all day.  It is important for their learning and growth.
